NYSDA Stands Firm in its Commitment to Diversity,Equity and Inclusion Initiatives

Feb 5, 2025
The New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) is reaffirming its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Representing dentists from all backgrounds, NYSDA remains dedicated to fostering an environment that is open and accepting of all individuals within the dental profession. NYSDA established its DEI Taskforce in 2021 to ensure every dentist is represented and understood.

“I am extremely proud of our DEI Taskforce, as well as the work it does to further engage with all members. It is important to unite all dentists, especially amid the generational transition our profession is currently experiencing,” said Prabha Krishnan, DDS, president of NYSDA. “When someone joins NYSDA, they benefit from both our DEI Taskforce and diverse Board of Directors, which illustrate our commitment to the long-term success of all, regardless of background.”

In addition to the DEI Taskforce, funds are being allocated towards various initiatives aimed at fostering inclusion across New York State, such as a Diverse Prospectives and Lasting Impressions program held in December at the Greater New York Dental Meeting. The discussion, which included NYSDA president Prabha Krishnan, DDS and NYSDA presidentelect Maurice Edwards, DMD, focused on promoting inclusivity and appreciation of diverse viewpoints across various cultures, ethnicities, genders, ages and more.

Next month, NYSDA will host another Diverse Perspectives and Lasting Prospectives program in honor of Black History Month. Scheduled for February 26 at the New York County Dental Society Headquarters, the one-hour discussion will highlight diverse leaders and share their journeys.
