AHRQ Issues CDSiC Newsletter

Apr 22, 2025

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has issued its Clinical Decision Support Innovation Collaborative (CDSiC) newsletter.

Issue Number 28 | April 22, 2025
In this edition of the Insider, we highlight AHRQ CDSiC products focused on advancing the use of patient preference data for patient-centered clinical decision support (PC CDS) and share a project summary with the AHRQ CDSiC's key accomplishments.
Table of Contents:
Have AHRQ CDSiC resources helped to inform your work?  Have you used an AHRQ CDSiC product to advance PC CDS?  We want to hear from you!

Since its launch, the AHRQ CDSiC has developed several products that facilitate the development, implementation, standardization, and measurement of PC CDS.  The AHRQ CDSiC team is always eager to learn about how our products have been used by the wider community of PC CDS stakeholders.

To share any thoughts, reach out to the AHRQ CDSiC project team at cdsic@norc.org using the subject line "Use of AHRQ CDSiC Products."  Please tell us which product you used, and how you used it.  Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Patient preferences provide the basis for how patients wish to interact with their clinician, share their personal data, or choose a particular course of action for their care.  The consideration of these preferences in healthcare decision making can enhance patient satisfaction and improve health outcomes.

The AHRQ CDSiC has developed multiple products to advance the use of this important data in PC CDS.  These include:

  • An inventory and accompanying report that catalogues 43 unique measurement tools and instruments used to elicit patient preferences related to their healthcare.

  • A report that offers guidance on capturing preferences within patient lifeflows and clinical workflows to help optimize the collection and use of this important information.

The AHRQ CDSiC will continue to explore this topic in 2025.  For a full list of the AHRQ CDSiC's completed patient preferences products, click here!

The AHRQ CDSiC recently released a project summary that provides a visual overview of the project's goals, areas of focus, and key accomplishments to date.  It also shares a useful summary of the AHRQ CDSiC's products, organized by five key topics:

  • Standards
  • Patient trust, engagement, and preferences
  • Measurement
  • Implementation
  • Use of artificial intelligence in PC CDS

Check out the full summary here!

The Clinical Decision Support Innovation Collaborative (CDSiC) is a community of broad, diverse stakeholders at the forefront of using technology to better support care teams, patients, and caregivers.  The CDSiC is working toward healthcare decisions that are driven by both patient-centered and patient-specific information and that align with patient needs, preferences, and values.  The CDSiC is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as part of a multi-component initiative to help advance patient-centered outcomes research into practice through CDS.  For any inquiries regarding the CDSiC you may contact the project team at CDSiC@norc.org.
